  1. The difficulty identified in the article is not surprising given the aversion to abortion among the general population and health care professionals. This is not a new issue. In changing the abortion law, the South African government ignored warnings that the health care system was not prepared to handle the influx of patients the law would likely trigger, and failed to take into account objections by signficant numbers of health care workers.
